Information on Novartis Biologics

Novartis Biologics (NBx) was formed in January 2008, and is now part of Novartis Pharma Development with a very strong connection to NIBR, the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research.  Its mission is to discover and develop biologic medicines that help patients reclaim their health and improve their quality of life. NBx is a competency platform, integrating non-clinical disciplines required for biologics development and connecting these disciplines with the therapeutic area expertise of the Pharma Franchises and NIBR Disease Areas to assure success of their therapeutic programs.  NBx is associated with projects at all stages of the product pipeline, from protein design to life cycle management.

Core expertise areas of NBx are:

  • Protein Sciences & Design (PSD): Selection, design and engineering of high quality therapeutic antibodies and proteins.
  • Process Sciences & Production (PSP): Process, analytical and formulation development from gene to viable commercial process; Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient and Drug Product production (GMP) and release analysis; process transfer to launch-site for market production.
  • Translational Sciences & Safety (TSS): Preclinical safety leadership and PK-PD expertise to biologics projects at all development stages.
